Fans of Wheel of Fortune are once again sounding off online after a contestant narrowly missed out on a massive payday — this time over a Bonus Round puzzle many viewers believed was surprisingly easy.
Contestant Shanquetta Cato dominated much of the episode, quickly emerging as the standout player of the night thanks to a string of impressive puzzle solves and confident gameplay. By the time she reached the final round, she had already racked up nearly $30,000 in cash and prizes, including two tropical vacations.

From the start, Cato appeared nearly unstoppable.
She cruised through the early rounds while her competitors struggled to gain momentum, building a commanding lead with puzzle after puzzle. Her winning streak included a luxury trip to Costa Rica valued at nearly $10,000, along with thousands more in cash earnings.
Cato continued her hot streak during the Mystery Round, where she successfully solved the prize puzzle and secured another getaway — this time to Antigua. By the end of the main game, she walked into the Bonus Round with more than $27,000 in total winnings and the confidence of someone who seemed poised for an even bigger victory.
For the final challenge, Cato selected the category “Phrase” and joined new host Ryan Seacrest at the wheel. Seacrest praised her strong performance throughout the episode, joking that she was good enough to teach a class on how to play the game.

After introducing her college friend in the audience, Cato faced the all-important Bonus Round puzzle. Following the show’s standard letter reveal, she selected additional consonants and a vowel in hopes of filling in the missing blanks.
The board eventually displayed a partially completed three-word phrase that read:
“_ O _ G O T L _ _ _ _”
At home, many viewers immediately believed the answer was within reach. But under the pressure of the clock, Cato struggled to piece the phrase together.

As the 10-second countdown ticked away, she attempted a few guesses but couldn’t land on the correct solution in time. When the buzzer sounded, co-host Vanna White revealed the answer: “YOU GOT LUCKY.”
The painful moment became even more dramatic seconds later when Seacrest opened the prize envelope to reveal what was at stake — an additional $100,000.
Although Cato remained upbeat and still walked away with substantial winnings and two dream vacations, viewers online had plenty to say about the missed opportunity.
Social media users flooded comment sections with reactions, with many insisting the puzzle should have been solved before time expired. Some viewers joked that the contestant had ironically “not gotten lucky,” while others claimed they solved the phrase instantly from home.

Still, longtime fans of the game pointed out that solving puzzles from the couch is far different from standing under bright studio lights with a countdown clock adding pressure.
Even so, the heartbreaking miss quickly became another viral Wheel of Fortune moment — and another reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in the Bonus Round.
