Tim McGraw is starting a sweet new tradition at his concerts.

The country music superstar recently kicked off his 2026 Pawn Shop Guitar Tour, which gets its name from his latest single release.

McGraw dropped the song at the end of May, and the nostalgic track takes listeners to the very beginning of his journey as a struggling musician. In it, McGraw tells the story of the time when he had almost nothing to his name.

He ended up trading his high school class ring for a $20 used guitar from a pawn shop, and the rest is history. A few of the song’s lyrics go as follows:

“Pawned my high school ring my freshman year in college / Traded my education for some six-string knowledge / Old man behind the counter said kid this’ll take you far / If you listen to the whispers In this pawn shop guitar”

It’s been decades since McGraw was starting out, but he still remembers those humble beginnings and wants to help anyone else out there chasing similar dreams. That’s why he’s begun a new tradition of giving out a free guitar.

At every stop on the tour, McGraw and his team will visit a local pawn shop, purchase a guitar, and then give it away to someone in the audience.

McGraw recently shared a video on Instagram showing the very first time he handed out one of the guitars. The lucky fan he chose to give a guitar to was a little girl standing in the front row.

“In every city that we play in, we decided to go to a pawn shop and get a guitar, and we’re gonna start some kid out, tonight on their journey with their pawn shop guitar,” he says to the arena of fans.

McGraw continues, “This little young lady right here is going to be the first one”

The little girl made her way onstage to take a photo with him and the electric blue guitar she’s now a proud owner of. McGraw even took the time to sign the instrument for her.

Another clip circulating online shows McGraw jokingly searching for “the next Taylor Swift” during his concert at RBC Amphitheatre in Toronto.

While looking through the crowd for a young fan to give the guitar to, McGraw suddenly changes his mind. He told the audience he wasn’t giving it to a kid this time. Instead, he spotted an older man standing in the pit and invited him up to receive the gift.

The fan was clearly in shock, and after McGraw handed it to him, he held the guitar up in the air as the crowd cheered.

It’s pretty incredible to see McGraw giving back to his fans in such a meaningful way, and he’s barely even started.

McGraw still has plenty of shows left this year. His next stop is Thursday, July 23, in Camden, New Jersey, and he will continue traveling across the country before wrapping up the tour on November 13 in Phoenix, Arizona.
