In the wake of Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo’s divorce settlement, a source is shedding new light on the end of the stars’ decade-long relationship.
“There was never any desire to drag the process out,” a source tells PEOPLE exclusively of the country musician (born Jason DeFord) and the Dumb Blonde podcast host (real name Alisa DeFord), who finalized their divorce earlier in July. “They both wanted to handle the divorce with respect for one another.”
“He’s a very generous person by nature and wanted to make sure the divorce was handled fairly and respectfully,” the insider adds.

The source also says Jelly, 41, is “doing really well” in the wake of the divorce, adding, “He’s focused on his tour and his health. He’s in a good place.”
Reps for Jelly and Bunnie did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
While the exact details of the stars’ settlement are confidential, TMZ reported that the pair will be splitting items including their homes, cars, an aircraft and their intellectual properties. Jelly will also make a one-time, confidential lump-sum payment to Bunnie, 46, so there will be no alimony claims made in court, per the outlet.

After the news broke, Bunnie revealed on her podcast that she and Jelly, whom she refers to by the nickname “J,” are “still having a baby together.”
“We’re going to co-parent together. J is my best friend. Like, this isn’t what you guys think this is,” Bunnie said while breaking her silence on the divorce in the June 18 episode of Dumb Blonde. “Nobody cheated on the other person. It’s literally just we served our purpose for each other.”
The podcaster also said that during her marriage to Jelly, she tried to get pregnant several times and lost four embryos. She told her listeners, “It wrecked me emotionally, spiritually, physically.” (Earlier this year, Bunnie had revealed in her memoir Stripped Down that she and Jelly had found a surrogate.)
In the since-deleted July 7 episode of her podcast, Bunnie also shared that, as part of the settlement, she would move into their compound with their future child. “I’m so excited to live my life through a child’s eyes, which is why this baby journey, I’m not going to let it break me, and I’m not going to deter it,” she said.

“And J has been so f—ing great about us still having a baby together, and he wants the same thing,” she continued at the time. “And we’re just going to raise little Nugget as one big happy family.”
Jelly quietly filed for divorce from Bunnie on May 18 after 10 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and listing their date of separation as May 9, PEOPLE previously reported.

As for how the musician has been coping in the wake of the split, a source told PEOPLE in June, “The reality is that he will always love her, but that doesn’t mean that he wants to stay married.”
“He’s in a very different place than he was when they met,” the source added at the time. “For the first time, he feels healthy, focused and in control of his future.”
“She believed in him when not many people did and helped him through some very difficult years,” the same source said of Bunnie. “He knows he wouldn’t be where he is today without her and he’s never going to forget that.”
“Jelly has also been there for Bunnie through a lot,” another insider added of the “Hands Up” musician. “He’s supported her over and over again throughout the years, through ups and downs.”
