Think You’ve Seen Every Creepy Netflix Mystery? Think Again… This One Is About To Pull You Under. Fans of From and Midnight Mass might want to sit up for this one. Netflix has a chilling six-part supernatural thriller on the way, and skipping it could mean missing one of the strangest horror stories to hit the screen.

If you’re into wild horror scenarios occurring in closed settings like those seen recently in some of the acclaimed supernatural shows such as “Widow’s Bay”, “Midnight Mass”, and “From”, Netflix might have something for you. Titled “Below”, the upcoming six-episode horror limited series will land on Netflix on October 8, 2026.

The series takes place in a remote, close-knit fishing village in Newfoundland, Canada. Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a stubborn but big-hearted fisherman still haunted by the mysterious death of his father decades ago. When an unidentified sea creature emerges from the depths and begins terrorising the town, Calvin must fight to protect his family and community. Does this sound like something that might interest you?

Joining Harnett is Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”) as Wade Penney, Calvin’s son; and Mackenzie Davis (“Blade Runner 2049”) as Fonda Howander, a visiting marine researcher who teams up with Calvin.

Created and showrun by Jesse McKeown (“The Umbrella Academy”), “Below” is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2026) on September 10, 2026, before it hits the streaming platform globally in October.

“Below” marks the maiden collaboration between Hartnett and McKeown. The former’s evolution has been interesting for fans who have been tracking his work from the 1990s and 2000s — transitioning from heartthrob into acclaimed character roles.

McKeown is an established Canadian writer and television producer primarily known for his sharp writing on critically acclaimed ensemble dramas. Served as a prominent writer and producer on Netflix’s massive superhero hit, “The Umbrella Academy”, from 2019 to 2024. He also worked on “19-2” from 2014 to 2017, an acclaimed gritty Canadian police procedural drama celebrated for its intense character studies and realism.
