A thrilling murder mystery is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

I, Jack Wright, starring Nikki Amuka-Bird and John Simm, has been described as a “terrific family thriller” that’s full of twists and turns.

 

Written by Chris Lang, known for Unforgotten, Innocent, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, I, Jack Wright, first debuted in April 2025 on U&Alibi but has now been acquired by the BBC.

 

It means that not only will season one be re-broadcast by the channel, but they’ve also acquired series two, which is currently in production.

A synopsis reads: “I, Jack Wright, is a propulsive whodunnit with family secrets at its core. The apparent death by suicide of high-powered businessman Jack Wright sends shockwaves through his family, leaving a mystery that pits greed, loyalty and suspicion against one another.

The six-part series stars Nikki-Amuka Bird, John Simm, Daniel Rigby, Ruby Ashbourne-Serkis, Zoë Tapper, Percelle Ascott, Harry Lloyd and Liz Kingsman.

I, Jack Wright, will start on BBC One on Sunday, July 12, at 9:15pm with a double bill as episodes one and two will play back to back.

Those who have already watched the series on U&Alibi have labelled it “faultless” and “suspenseful.”

The show has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with one reviewer writing: “Finally a thoroughly excellent story, told with sharpness and high tension… and at no point did any character have me yelling ‘no-one acts that way! Why would you do that?!’ – the way 98% of modern drama does.

“Every character consistent, true to their own story. Right up to the last moment. Great stuff.”
