CORVALLIS, Ore. — Endo the Blind, the multi-world record holding horse who had no eyes, has died. He was 26.

The mostly white and brown spotted Appaloosa horse had grown quite an online following, racking up more than 707,000 followers between Instagram and Facebook.

“Thank you for loving him along with me,” owner Morgan Wagner wrote on Endo’s social media pages.

The posts garnered millions of views, hundreds of thousands of reactions and tens of thousands of comments expressing their condolences and appreciation for Endo.

“Endo was one of a kind and your relationship was unmatched,” one commenter wrote. “I have truly loved following your adventures over the years, always in awe over your bond. Thank you for sharing this beautiful soul with us. I hope you find comfort in knowing how many hearts he touched all over the world. Sending you love and light. Rest easy, sweet boy.”

Endo’s health began to decline in December when he was diagnosed with a “very significant heart murmur,” Wagner wrote on Facebook. A month later, he was diagnosed with mild Cushing’s disease, a disorder of the pituitary gland that impacts hormone production, and in February his immune system began “attacking his kidneys.”

Endo and Wagner, who are from Corvallis, Oregon, met when she was 13 years old and got to pick him out from her grandmother’s farm.

“Endo has a big personality, that’s why I picked him out of all the babies my grandma had,” Wagner told the Guinness World Records in 2022. “He thinks he’s the greatest horse in the world, and he wants everybody to know that.”

Endo was diagnosed with Equine Recurrent Uveitis, glaucoma and cataracts when he was 8 years old. After taking the typical medications to treat the conditions, he got worse. It led Wagner and the veterinarian treating Endo to remove one of his eyes. His other eye was removed six months later, according to his website.

“So many people told me to put him down, and still some people say that after watching his videos,” Wagner wrote on Facebook. “He’s not scared of darkness or the possibility of running into something. He trust me and his senses he developed over the years. Disability doesn’t mean useless and miserable.”

Endo achieved three Guinness World Records in 2022 despite being fully blind. He is the record holder for the highest free jump by a blind horse (3 ft 5.73 in); the most flying changes by a horse in one minute (39); and the fastest time for a blind horse to weave five poles (6.93 seconds).

Wagner said Endo’s social media pages will be “dedicated to continuing on his legacy.”
