Last Resort: Jason Watkins Leads Channel 5’s Twisty New Seaside Murder Mystery Drama

A picture-perfect coastal village. A group of lifelong friends. A shocking death that may not have been an accident. Channel 5 is bringing viewers a brand-new mystery drama that promises secrets, twists, and a murder investigation that will turn a peaceful seaside getaway into a nightmare.

Titled Last Resort, the upcoming six-part thriller stars Jason Watkins alongside a talented ensemble cast including Caroline Quentin, Niamh Cusack, and Tessa Peake-Jones.

The drama follows a group of old friends who arrive in a charming seaside village expecting a relaxing holiday filled with beach walks, pub lunches, and long-awaited reunions. But their escape quickly turns into a devastating mystery when tragedy strikes.

While police initially dismiss the incident as an accident, the friends are convinced something far darker has happened. Refusing to accept the official explanation, they begin their own investigation to uncover the truth.

With the help of Joy’s daughter Kate, played by Bronagh Waugh, the group starts digging into the village’s hidden history. Their search soon brings them into contact with DI Simon Lund, portrayed by John Hannah, as old crimes begin resurfacing and disturbing patterns emerge.

Despite its idyllic appearance, the village hides a much darker reality. Behind the friendly faces and peaceful coastal scenery lies a web of secrets, unanswered questions, and a killer who may have been operating in the close-knit community for years.

The series also features appearances from Cathy Belton, Ella Dacres, Chizzy Akudolu, Geff Francis, Conor Mullen, Tadhg Murphy, Jonathan Harden, and Simon Coury.
