Most singers spend years honing their singing chops, but it seems that singing the blues just comes naturally to this fuzzy bluesman. When Badu’s cat dad picked up a hollow body guitar and played a tasty blues jam, Badu showed the world his amazing talent and sang along like a pro!
Over the course of the one-minute performance, each time his owner paused between riffs, Badu would sing out with a cute meow right in time with the music. Anyone who has even spent any time with a cat will know how incredible this feat is. They are next to impossible to train, but singing like an old bluesman is just all in a day’s work for Badu! Badu’s big moment did the rounds on YouTube big time, attracting 3.6 million views.
Badu’s banging blues jam was uploaded on his official YouTube channel Badu the Singing Cat on December 2, 2020. Viewers were amazed by Badu’s talents, and added comments such as “What a purrfessional. He didn’t miss a cue, even during a yawn” and “What I love is the laid-back delivery of Badu’s phrasing. It takes human singers years to purrfect such ease and effortless presentation. Bravo!”
Despite becoming an internet sensation, Badu has remained quite the mysterious artist, having only uploaded two videos on YouTube. The other video featuring Badu’s musical skills was uploaded a month before the blues jam and showcases Badu’s impressive folk-singing abilities. You’ve also gotta give it up to Badu’s owner, who can play a real mean guitar lick.
Unfortunately, we don’t have much information to share about Badu’s owner, as he chose to remain anonymous online. Perhaps he prefers to keep the spotlight on the amazing talents of Badu, and who can blame him?
Luckily for Badu fans, his owner has shared several more performances from the fabulous feline on Instagram. These videos show that Badu is a super consistent performer, never missing the chance to sing in time with his dad’s guitar playing.
Badu’s owner revealed in his most recent Instagram post on July 23, 2023, that Badu is named after American R&B singer Erykah Badu. Perhaps this impressive musical lineage played a role in Badu’s incredible skills on the mic? Or, more likely, like all great blues singers, Badu was just born with it.
