Taylor Swift isn’t featured on Little House on the Prairie‘s official soundtrack, but according to the cast, there were plenty of Swift songs being blasted on the prairie off-screen.
In interviews with PEOPLE, stars Alice Halsey (Laura), Skywalker Hughes (Mary) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Caroline) all confirmed they bonded over being Swifties — and they introduced Luke Bracey, who plays Pa Charles Ingalls, to the pop star’s hits. In fact, Halsey, 11, noted that just as Charles’ fiddle playing provides moments of bonding for the Ingalls on-screen, Swift’s music helps the cast connect in real life.
“Listen, I am a Swiftie beyond your imagination,” Halsey tells PEOPLE. “I absolutely love her. I love all of her songs. I think that that was definitely a big bonding thing for us Ingalls. I think that in the show you can definitely see how music is something that keeps us really tight and in real life, that was the same.”

The Lessons in Chemistry alum shares that she and Hughes, 14, “immediately bonded over our love of pop and Taylor Swift.” She continues, “Crosby is also a Swiftie. And of course, when we learned that Luke was not super-duper familiar with Taylor, we were like, ‘Okay, we’re making you a Swiftie.’ So we forced him to listen to ‘Anti-Hero’ 500 times.”
Halsey laughs, “But listen, it’s what we had to do.”

In a separate interview, Crosby, 36, confirmed that her on-screen husband is making progress on his Swiftie journey.
“He is learning,” she confirms of Bracey, 37. “He’s learning and he actually loves it. He gets a real kick out of it and he has fun too. We have our little moments with Luke, but I’m really trying … Last night I was trying to really talk him into watching the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour documentary. I was like, ‘You’re going to love it.’ And he’s like, ‘Alright, mate, I’ll check it out.’ ”
As for which Swift songs and albums are in constant rotation for the cast, Fitzgerald says she and Hughes “really love Evermore,” with her personal favorite song being “‘Tis the Damn Season,” while Halsey shares she loves Reputation and her “favorite song might be ‘Gold Rush.’ ”
Fitzgerald also confirms that her TV daughters are “really good singers,” adding, “They’ll just bust into any of them and we’ll just kind of rock out. I forget what we were doing last season, but this season there’s a whole new album to look forward to.”

Halsey says that she and Hughes became known for “walking around set just belting Taylor Swift” — which occasionally made Fitzgerald channel her inner Caroline to get the girls back on track. “Sometimes I have mom mode where I’m like, ‘Guys, quiet,’ “ the Palm Royale alum jokes during a group interview.
Hughes chimes in that this most often happens “when we’re arguing about something,” as Halsey adds, “Or we’ll be belting Taylor Swift and Crosby will be like, ‘Guys.’ ”
Ultimately though, Swift was just one part of the cast’s bonding experience. Fitzgerald says the young stars made it easy to create a strong bond off-screen that led to such real warmth shining through in the Ingalls’ interactions on the show.

“It wasn’t so hard because the girls make it very easy,” she explains. “They’re immediately so welcoming to both of us. I think it’s pretty daunting going in being like, ‘Okay, we’re your mom and dad. Hi, nice to meet you.’ But they truly ran into our arms the first time both of us got to meet them.”
She says that the bond “was pretty immediate,” and adds that “we’re constantly playing games on set and laughing.”
Bracey agrees, “Working with these girls is laughing and then interspersed between the laughing is we do a bit of acting.”
Little House on the Prairie season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
