Towards the end of the show, Naga joined her fellow BBC Breakfast presenters on the sofa to say goodbye to Carol.

Viewers have often commented on the pair’s playful dynamic over the years, and the duo couldn’t help teasing each other one final time.

Carol, who appeared surprised at Naga’s appearance in the studio, said: “Thank you all for coming – and even you, Nags!”

In a deadpan tone, Naga quipped: “I’m just waiting for the countdown for you to go,” before bursting out laughing.

Naga then presented her longtime colleague with a framed illustration by Mr Men artist Adam Hargreaves, which portrayed the weather presenter as Little Miss Sunshine.

“I will treasure this,” said Carol. “It’s going to have pride of place…” she continued, before Naga interrupted, “In the toilet?”

Carol’s colleagues then brought out a weather-themed cake. Naga joked: “Are you going to break the habit of a lifetime and actually share the cake?”

Carol responded: “No, Naga, absolutely not – why would I do that?” to which Naga said: “Exactly. Why change it? We only want to remember you one way, Carol.”

Response from BBC Breakfast viewers

Viewers who tuned into Wednesday’s programme were quick to comment on Naga and Carol’s exchange on social media.

Viewers have often commented on Naga and Carol’s dynamic

One person wrote on X: “Naga didn’t do a pre-recorded solo tribute like the other newsreaders who’ve worked with her for years. Instead she tried her usual gotcha tactics to embarrass Carol,” while another added: “Maybe Naga and Carol really didn’t get on.”

Carol and Naga’s off-screen relationship

Viewers have often commented on Naga and Carol’s on-screen dynamic, and while some have questioned just how well the presenters get on when the cameras stop rolling, both presenters have been vocal about their affection for each other.

Carol has previously spoken about the camaraderie between the presenters

Speaking to The Sun in 2023, Carol clarified that the pair “absolutely do” get on. “I love Naga and we just have banter,” explained the weather presenter. “I love the camaraderie between us and everyone. It’s a good, fun job.”

Meanwhile, Naga has also spoken highly of Carol, previously describing her as a “force of nature” during an episode of BBC Breakfast. While Carol was initially unsure how to receive the comment, saying, “I’m not sure if that’s a compliment,” Naga was quick to reassure her. “Of course! Always, Carol,” she said.
