Claims that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have returned to Britain because the Duchess of Sussex is preparing to revive her acting career have been dismissed by industry insiders.

The couple’s decision to relocate back to the UK, six years after leaving for the United States, had prompted speculation that Meghan’s reported discussions over a new television role could have influenced the move.

Meghan was understood to have entered early-stage talks about a possible role in the third series of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix hit The Gentlemen, according to Deadline.

However, reports later suggested that the potential casting had been abandoned amid a backlash in Britain.

Industry insiders reject TV role theory

Despite the timing of the reported discussions and the Sussexes’ return, people within the entertainment industry have rejected the suggestion that Meghan’s acting ambitions were behind the family’s decision to relocate.

Speaking to Sky News, industry sources were emphatic that the move was not driven by a single television opportunity.

“You don’t uproot your family for one role in a show. There’s no chance the reason they’re coming back is TV roles like The Gentlemen,” they said.
