Vinicius Jr has removed every post, photograph and highlight from his Instagram account, while also deleting his biography and profile picture, in the latest development surrounding his uncertain Real Madrid future.

The Brazilian returned to pre-season training under José Mourinho earlier this week and has publicly spoken positively about life under the new coach, but his unexpected social media reset has inevitably drawn fresh attention to his ongoing contract situation.

Entire Instagram profile cleared

Supporters noticed on Wednesday that Vinicius’ Instagram account, followed by more than 64 million people, had been completely wiped.

Every post disappeared from his profile, while his biography, profile photograph and story highlights were also removed.

Although footballers occasionally clear their social media accounts before new campaigns or commercial launches, Vinicius has offered no explanation for the decision.

The timing has inevitably fuelled fresh discussion because it comes while negotiations over his future remain unresolved.

Real Madrid are understood to have offered the 26-year-old a new contract worth around $25.5 million per season, but no agreement has yet been announced.

With his current deal entering its final year, discussions over a long-term extension remain ongoing.

Return to training brought encouraging signs

The social media activity stands in contrast to events on the training ground.

Vinicius only returned to Real Madrid’s training base earlier this week after his post-World Cup break and has now joined José Mourinho’s squad as preparations continue for the 2026-27 season.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after returning, the Brazilian gave little indication that his future was in doubt.

“It has gone very well, getting to know the new coach and the new players, and training very hard.

“He also revealed Mourinho’s message to him.

“Mourinho wants me to be as I have always been: happy, cheerful and playing my style of football.”

Talks involving Vinicius’ representatives, Real Madrid general director José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat also took place in Madrid on Wednesday, with reports suggesting the club remain optimistic about reaching an agreement.

Transfer speculation has continued

Despite those positive signs, Vinicius has remained one of the most discussed names of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have repeatedly been linked with the Brazilian, although neither club has publicly confirmed negotiations. When Mikel Arteta was asked about the forward during Arsenal’s pre-season tour last week, he smiled before saying only that the Premier League champions remained “very active” in the market and expected further movement before the window closed.

Around the same time, Vinicius’ representatives at Roc Nation Sports International issued a strongly worded statementcondemning what they described as “fake and damaging information” published about their clients.

Without mentioning Vinicius specifically, the agency said it could not “stand idle when unprofessional and uninformed media publish fake and damaging information for attention-seeking purposes,” adding that such reporting was “disruptive, harmful and libellous” and urging media outlets to be more accountable.

The statement arrived amid widespread transfer speculation involving several Roc Nation clients, including Vinicius.

Contract remains the central issue

For now, there is nothing to indicate that Vinicius’ social media clear-out is directly connected to his contract negotiations.

Real Madrid are still believed to be confident of keeping one of their most important players, while Mourinho has made clear that the Brazilian remains central to his plans for the new season.

Until an agreement is signed, however, every development surrounding Vinicius is likely to attract heightened attention. Wednesday’s Instagram reset may ultimately prove to be nothing more than a personal decision, but with negotiations continuing and interest from elsewhere refusing to disappear, it has inevitably become another talking point in one of football’s most closely watched contract sagas.
